A recent article of Alison Linn blames Generation Y for the decline in Auto sales. I really do not agree with article at all, first because the way the economy is at the moment there is no need to blame anyone for sale decline of any kind, people just can't afford to buy new and expensive car period. Second I think it also depends the city you live in, if you live in Miami you have no option than to buy a car, even if it is an old one. Miami transportation system is one of the worse in the united states, so if transportation does not help you have to make the sacrifice of having a car. There are cities like New York and many cities in Europe where the transportation system work so well that there is no need for a car, a part that having a car can become a nightmare because there is not place to park.
I admit that people on generation usually have not money since most of them are going through school and can't afford many things for that reason, but there is no sense on blaming this generation for the auto sales loses. There are many factor that comes to play when buying a car and belonging to a certain generation I believe is not one of them.
I agree as well I believe that the internet is not a major factor in auto sales decline, rather the fact that many people can't afford to purchase new automobiles may attributed to this dilemma. Many states do not necessarily have to depend on cars because they have a reliable system of transportation. Cities like Miami itself, one is forced to find a reliable means of transportation because waiting for a bus is here can take hours! However if there's no money how can car dealerships expect people to spend?
ReplyDeleteWhat about the bad economy we are living in? That's the first factor that should be think of when talking about decreasing car sales.
ReplyDeleteYou made a great point, Ana, it depends on the city you live in that will dictate if someone really needs to buy a car or not. We cannot rely on Miami transportation otherwise we will never get to work and school on time.
