In the digital era that we are living in Internet has overcome people in general. Everything you need is usually online, and I think as far as government getting involve in this online system is great because there are not lines to make on government agencies any more, at least for most of the things. However, I do believe that government can't go completely digital there should be a way to speak to a person if necessary.
Some times Computers can't answer to all the questions you might have, and it can become very overwhelming when a web page is not well optimized, which they usually aren't. I would say that government at least should have a working 1800 number to offer further assistant.
ONLINE services are great for us that know how to use them, yet we should not forget that there is still a generation out (like our grandfathers) that do not get along with the internet, so we should have options available for them...
Government online services are definitely a great way to get many everyday things accomplished without having to wait in lines or go in person. But like you said, computers don't have all the answers and there should still be a person available to speak to if needed. I'm the type of person that if I have a question about something, I go straight to a website to search for the answer. When I'm convinced that the answer isn't there, that's when I pick up the phone and call customer service.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! The government going digital has been so beneficial, but sometimes it is just a huge pain. I recently had the sticker part of my registration come off of my license plate, and I had to go in to the DMV 3 times until I finally brought the right paperwork. I was unable to find a phone number to call these people and ask what I had to bring, as everything was either online or automated, and my problem was not a common one and hadn't been covered in either of those formats. It would really be a big help if they focused more on personal customer service.
ReplyDeleteI also agree computers are great. But what about the government and its face to face interaction? Isint government for the people by the people? Im sure you can argue that the people are behind on their computers....but does everyone have a computer? Im pretty sure the people who need more the governments help does not have access to computers..here in the states and even moreso in other parts of the world.
